Fire damages Manila nuns’ convent
A fire damaged a convent in Quiapo, Manila, early Tuesday morning.
The blaze at the two-story structure housing the Sisters of the Holy Face of Jesus on R. Hidalgo Street, Barangay 393, started around 2:40 a.m., according to the Manila fire department. The convent’s superior general, Mother Teresita Bantillo, saw the fire starting at the laundry area on the ground floor, it added.
Nobody was reported killed or injured as all the nuns had already rushed out of the building by the time the flames spread. The blaze reached the third alarm and raged for about an hour before it was declared out by firefighters. The cost of the damage was still being determined at press time.–Nathaniel R. Melican
