The newly installed Police Regional Office-7 director said a back-to-basics training program of police officers would refresh policemen of their responsibilities and functions, which should be instilled in their hearts and minds.
“These are the police functions that the policemen should know: first aid, how to make arrest, how to react on crisis situations. It also includes basic correspondence and making reports,” Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo said during the opening of the five-day back-to-basis training in Mandaue police.
Insp. Dexter Calakar of Regional Special Training Unit facilitated the training.
Garbo said each policeman should embrace these responsibilities to improve the community.
He said station chiefs and city directors should talk regularly to address important matters.
Garbo wouldn’t hesitate to give sanctions to erring policemen as long as this won’t affect their families.
He said the training would help improve the services of the police force.
Senior Supt Noel Gillamac, city director of Mandaue City Police, said policemen who are in the service for several years might have already forgotten their basic training, especially in courtesy and proper decorum.
Garbo said he intends to visit the 120 police stations of the province within his first year as PRO-7 chief.
Also, he said he wanted to implement the tourist police as soon as possible since Region 7 is a tourist attraction. He said tourist police will have a special uniform with ball caps bearing the Philippine flag, which will be shouldered by the province./reporter jucell marie cuyos
