Defying the results of two popular public opinion pollsters, Vice President Jejomar Binay was able to keep a very small lead against Sen. Grace Poe in the latest presidential survey of independent think tank Ibon Foundation.
The results of the May 13 to 23 survey with 1,496 respondents nationwide showed that Binay gained 13.8 percent compared to Poe’s 13.7 percent. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who has shelved any potential bid for the presidency, placed third with a far 7.6 percent.
President Benigno Aquino III placed fourth with 4.2 percent, defeating reported administration bet Interior Secretary Mar Roxas who garnered 3.8 percent.
However, Poe leads the vice presidential race in the survey, garnering 15.9 percent. Binay placed second with 6.8 percent, followed by Roxas who garnered 5.1 percent. In fourth place is Senator Francis Escudero who gained 2.5 percent followed by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago with 1.9 percent.
Escudero, Santiago, Antonio Trillanes IV, Alan Peter Cayetano and Poe are the top five senators preferred by respondents to secure posts in the Senate.
Meanwhile, militant party-lists Anak Pawis, Bayan Muna and Gabriela lead the top three spots of most preferred party-list groups by respodents. Pro-life party-list Buhay placed fourth with six percent while ANWARAY garnered 5.8 percent.
The respondents were asked their “top-of-head” answers to the question: “If the national elections were held today, who would you vote for the following positions – for President, Vice President, Senators, Partylist?”
The results of the latest Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations surveys showed that Poe has trumped Binay to become the leading candidate preferred by respondents to succeed Aquino. AU
