Vice President Jejomar Binay only thinks about himself and values nothing but his political ambitions, a Liberal Party lawmaker said on Wednesday.

“Since Vice President Binay’s first day in office as member of the presidential cabinet, he had used it to advance his political ambitions,” Caloocan Representative Edgar Erice said in Filipino during an ambush interview.

Erice made the statement amid Binay’s resignation on Monday as chief of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and as presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers affairs.

Erice joined Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino and top PNP officials in launching the second phase “Project Safe KAm” or the installation of 34 security cameras in key areas in Caloocan city.

Erice said Roxas and other cabinet secretaries, unlike Binay, had a sense of “delicadeza,” not leaving Benigno Aquino III behind and let him “cram” to look for replacement when they leave their posts.

Walang pakialam kung anong mangyayari dahil ang iniisip lang niya sarili niya (The only things that are important to him are himself and his ambitions. Without any advice, he just resigned. He does not care what would happen because he only thinks about himself),” he added.

He also chided the Vice President for his lack of credibility when he refused to face his corruption allegations involving the overpriced construction of the Makati City Hall Building II.

“Kapag wala kang record, wala kang ginagawang masama, wala kang dapat ikatakot… Ang hamon ko sa kanya, ang tagal na niyang nagtatago sa mga akusasyon sa kanya; hangga’t may sagisag, may monumento ng pandarambong sa Makati, palagay ko walang kredibilidad si Vice President Binay,” he said.

(If you do not have a record, if you have not done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear. He has long hidden from his accusations. As long as there are symbols and monuments of corruption in Makati, I don’t think Vice President Binay has any credibility.) IDL
