‘Rosary Relay’ to be launched

NAGA CITY—The religious frenzy during last month’s feast of the Virgin of Peñafrancia may now be over, but for devotees of “Ina” in different parts of the globe, there is no letup in their crusade to collect and make three million rosaries to ensure that devotion would be passed on to the next generation.

The 3 Million Rosaries for Ina Crusade will launch a “Rosary Relay” on October 7, with the backing of the Archdiocese of Caceres led by Archbishop Leandro Z. Legazpi. Rosaries collected throughout the yearlong campaign will be distributed to 25 Marian parishes in Bicol, according to Dr. Agnes Claros, crusade project director.

“The rosary is the Virgin Mary’s prayer. The Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia is also the Virgin of the Rosary, that is why we chose it as the instrument through which we would be able to pass on to the next generation this devotion that we have been following for the last 300 years,” Claros said.

The event will start at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary with Archbishop Legazpi leading the praying of the “Credo” and the “Our Father.”

Over 300,000 rosaries were turned over to the archdiocese’s Catechetical Mission on December 7 last year, Claros said. She added that over 50,000 more would be given to be used in the rosary relay.

The rosaries were recently donated and made by parishioners and devotees.
