The Commission on Appointments confirmed Wednesday the ad-interim appointments of elections commissioner Rowena Guanzon and Commission on Audit chair Michael Aguinaldo.

Guanzon and Aguinaldo’s terms will expire on February 2, 2022.

Before a CA panel endorsed her confirmation on Tuesday, Guanzon assured lawmakers of her independence and impartiality.

Guanzon used to be the mayor of Cadiz City. But she retired from politics in 1992, after losing to a Liberal Party candidate during that year’s elections.

Guanzon, a lawyer, used to be an official of the COA and was also a law professor at the University of the Philippines, among other positions.

Before being appointed to the COA, Aguinaldo was a Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs in Malacañang.
