ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—A Philippine Army officer was shot and killed in the village of San Pedro in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, on Monday night.
Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero, chief of Western Mindanao Command, identified the victim as Major Ibno Kalid Hassan, who was assigned to the Service Support Battalion of the First Infantry Division based in Upper Pulakan, Labangan, in the same town.
“Major Ibno Hassan was with his wife in the grocery to buy a drink for their sick child in the hospital when he was shot on his back four times,” Army’s First Infantry Division public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Audie Mongao said on Tuesday.
“He has no enemies; he is a good person,” Mongao said.
Hassan, 56, was a Moro National Liberation Front integree.
The Army major was not wearing his uniform and unarmed when the incident happened. His wife, meanwhile, was not attacked.
Guerrero said they were still awaiting updates on the police investigation. TVJ/RC
