“TALAGANG wala syang alam. Tamaan na ako ng kidlat ngayon.”

This was how Senator Nancy Binay repeatedly denied on Monday that her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, had something to do with the recent attacks against Senator Grace Poe.

“I swear wala syang alam (he didn’t know),” she said.

Senator Binay noted that it was Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, interim president of the Vice President’s United Nationalist Alliance, who raised the residency issue against Poe.

But when told about her sister’s, Makati Representative Abigail Binay, statement that the friendship between their family and Poe had been affected by the recent issues, Senator Binay said: “Kasi di ba if you go dun sa mga statements ni Senator Grace parang may mga patama sya…”

While she said they had no rifts with Poe, she said she would let the emotions to cool down first as there were hurtful exchanges of words between the two camps.

“So pahupain muna natin kasi mahirap namang pilitin if the timing is not right,” she said.

Despite this, Senator Binay said her family would keep an open door for Poe, citing how the Vice President was willing to die for the latter’s late father, Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ).

“Kung babalikan natin, my father was willing to die for FPJ so bakit naman yung mga ganitong issue e isasara namin ang pinto?”

The Vice President campaigned for FPJ in 2004 when he ran but lost to then President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“Hindi namin iniwanan ang pamilya nila during those times so bakit kelangang magkaroon ng pagsasara ng mga pinto,” Senator Binay added.
