THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers capped off a successful weekend as they snatched away the lead in the juniors standings of the Cesafi basketball tournament by defeating the Don Bosco College Greywolves, 108-63, yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Lancers now hold a 13-1 (win-loss) card, half-a-game ahead of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles heading to their much-anticipated match-up this Saturday.
And just like their win over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) last Saturday, UV once again submitted five guys in double-figures led by the 17 of seldom-used center Earl Undaloc. Nelson Peralta tallied 14, Matthew Oche had 13, while Paul Desiderio and Ron Dennison added 12 and 11, respectively.
The reigning champions, Cebu Eastern College Dragons, also blew past the USJ-R Baby Jaguars, 86-76, led by the 26 of Lyle Sumayang to boost their record to 9-3.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers kept themselves in the hunt with a 73-70 win over the University of San Carlos.
COBRAS ON A ROLL
Meanwhile, the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras remained undefeated in the second round of the eliminations as they notched their fourth straight win with a 94-75 bashing of USJ-R in the seniors division.
After finishing the first round with a fair record of 3-3, the wards of head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba have caught fire and are now looking like every bit of the contender that they were pegged to be in the offseason.
They now boast of a 7-3 record, good for third place behind the University of Cebu and the University of the Visayas.
