NPA releases 2 captive BJMP personnel in Surigao del Sur–military
The New People’s Army freed its two captives from Bureau of Jail and Management Penology in Surigao del Sur on Thursday, the military said.
The two BJMP personnel, identified as Juan Salazar and Feliciano Polan, were released by their captors led by Felizardo Valdez alias Ado in Barangay Libasod, San Miguel town, at about 8 a.m., Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Eduardo Gubat said in a statement on Friday.
The two jail officers were abducted on April 27, when a BJMP vehicle with two inmates was ambushed by the communist rebels along the highway in Barangay Amontay in Marihatag town. The vehicle was on its way to Lianga from the same province to Tandag City as the inmates were supposed to attend court hearings.
An inmate identified as Jojean Alameda, an alleged bomb and improvised explosive device expert, was taken by the rebels.
The captives were released to Surigao del Sur Gov. Johnny Pimentel, Tandag City Bishop Nerio Odchimar and other local leaders. RC
