Nancy Binay wonders what’s keeping Aquino from endorsing Roxas

“WHAT’s wrong with Secretary (Mar) Roxas?”

Senator Nancy Binay raised this question on Thursday, baffled by President Benigno Aquino III’s reluctance to immediately endorse Roxas to be the Liberal party’s standard-bearer in 2016.

It started when a reporter asked the senator if she thinks the attacks against her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, had the President’s blessings.

Binay said she could not speculate but she wondered why the President had to look for an alternative when the administration’s Liberal Party is already considering Roxas to be its bet in next year elections.

She was apparently referring to the meeting between Aquino and Senator Grace Poe, which took place before Aquino left for the United States and Canada last week.

“Why not endorse already Secretary Roxas. What is the hesitation? What is wrong with Secretary Roxas?” Senator Binay said.

Asked what she thinks was wrong with Roxas, the senator said: “I don’t know dahil hindi naman ako mag e-endorse sa kanya.”

(I don’t know because I’m not the one who will endorse him.)

Asked again if they would ask the President, who is a family friend, to tone down the attacks of his allies, the senator said: “Mahirap e i guess call na yun ni President pero may iba pa naman kaming kaibigan.”

(It’s difficult. I guess it’s the President’s call but we still have other friends.)

The senator took a swipe though at the President’s slogan “daang matuwid” for its failure to change the kind of politics in the county.

“Nakaka-frustrate kasi coming from daang matuwid, pagbabago pero parang ganun pa rin ang uri ng pamumulitika. Instead na ipagyabang mo kung ano yung ginawa mo, ano yung gagawin mo hindi yung kung ano-anong kasinungalingan ang ibabato mo sa nangungunang kandidato para lang magkaroon ka ng pag asa. It’s not helping anybody,” she further said. AC
