Aquino hopes for successor who will ‘protect’ PH progress

“A successor who will build upon our achievements”—That’s what President Benigno Aquino III is hoping for as he counts his remaining days in office.

Aquino said he hopes the Filipino people have seen the “surges these past four years and 11 months” and that they will “protect the progress we have made” by voting for a successor who will continue his reforms.

“Nevertheless, until the very last day of my term, I will continue working with my countrymen who are my strength towards building a greater Philippine nation. I will continue to ask why. I will continue to show that indeed the Filipino is worth fighting for,” the President said Thursday after he was conferred with a degree of Doctor of Humanities by the Tarlac State University.

Aquino, in his interview with Bombo Radyo aired earlier in the day, said he has been speaking with people interested in running for office next year.

He said he thinks Senator Grace Poe, among those doing well in the presidential surveys, was reliable enough to pursue and continue the reforms of his administration. However, he did not say if he was eyeing Poe as the standard bearer of the Liberal Party. IDL
