‘Dodong’ weakens, 2 areas under signal no. 1

TYPHOON “Dodong” (international name: Noul) has weakened as it makes its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state weather agency said Monday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 p.m. bulletin that Dodong now packs maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph.

It has also gained speed, now moving northeast at 30 kph.

Pagasa said that the typhoon’s diameter has narrowed to 75 kilometers.

At 4 p.m., Dodong was located 200 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes.

According to the state weather bureau, signal no. 1 was raised over Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.

Dodong is expected to exit PAR on Tuesday morning.

The typhoon, which pummeled northern Luzon, left two persons dead and sent thousands evacuating from their homes.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that a tropical storm, identified internationally as “Dolphin,” might enter PAR over the weekend.  AC
