Navotas police bust ‘bangus gang’

Two men found this out the hard way when they were caught stealing a bucketful of fish by a fellow employee at the Navotas City fish port on Wednesday night.

Suspects Renato Malunis, 48, who works for Boy and Girlie Corp. at the fish port complex on Bulungan Street in North Bay Boulevard South, and Michael Rapsil, 33, were caught stealing a bucket of fish by Malunis’ fellow worker, Boyet Sebastian, around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, case investigator PO2 Allan Bangayan said.

Sebastian immediately reported what he saw to their employer, Michael de Guzman, 43, and the Navotas Police Community Precinct 4.

The arresting officers chanced upon the suspects carrying the stolen bucket of fish on their way out of the port, Bangayan said. At the police station, the suspects admitted to stealing the 29 kilos of fish worth P3,840.

But Bangayan said the employer, whom he described as “kind,” decided not to file charges against the suspects after talking to their relatives. Malunis and Rapsil were released from jail on Thursday.
