Julia Vargas Avenue in Ortigas, Pasig City, was named after social worker and antituberculosis crusader Julia Vargas vda. de Ortigas. Born on April 27, 1881, in Sta. Cruz, Manila, she was a member of the Philippine Tuberculosis Society for more than 30 years. She received at least 21 citations and awards for her outstanding services in the field of social work, the most prestigious of which was the Golden Heart Presidential Award in 1960.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
