Heavy rains, strong winds and possible flash floods may occur during the thunderstorm, said Buddy Javier, weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Despite the phenomena, Javier said thunderstorms are normal events during the dry season.

He added this is all because of too much heat, which causes water to evaporate at such a fast rate. If accumulated, this may result to the formation of cumulo-nimbus clouds which cause the rains, wind and thunder.

Javier said the thunderstom may persist for up to two hours.

Pagasa said the affected areas include  Metro Manila (Quezon City, Marikina, North Caloocan; Rizal (Antipolo, Rodriguez, San Mateo); Bulacan (Norzagaray, Angat, San Jose del Monte, San Ildefonso, San Miguel); Laguna (Calauan, San Pablo, Bay); Pampanga(Candaba, Arayat); Zambales (San Marcelino, Castillejos, Subic); and NuevaEcija(Cabiao, San Isidro, Gapan), which may persist within two hours and most likely to affect nearby areas.

This is not the first time hail stones are found in the country. Last year, hailstorms occured in Makati City, Compostela Valley and Rodriguez town in Rizal province. Ed Glorious Cabading, Alyssa Marie A. Jacinto/Inquirer.Net,Trainees
