Attempt to rob ATM in Malabon City fails

MANILA, Philippines — Suspected robbers tried but failed to take money from an automated teller machine (ATM) past 12 a.m. Monday in Malabon City, police said.

Security guard Ronald Atienza, 32, reported to authorities that “something unusual” was happening at around 12:30 a.m. at China Bank along Governor Pascual Avenue in Acacia, Malabon City.

Those behind the attempt to destroy the ATM has not been identified, police said.

Atienza, who was assigned at the Union Bank, said there was no guard on duty at China Bank so he called the security agency of both banks, Uniwide Security Agency, about the incident.

Roving security inspectors of the agency, who responded to the report, discovered that the machine, number combination of the vault and the lights inside the cubicle were destroyed.
