The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a 30-day suspension order against 15 units of the DLTB bus company after one of its buses figured in a road accident in Eastern Samar that killed five people.
A DLTB bus with plate number ADA 1566 on April 12 collided with a van along the national highway of Quinapondan, Eastern Samar, which left five passengers of the van dead.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said that the DLTB bus plied outside its authorized route.
Ginez said the bus had an approved route of San Pablo City, Laguna to Pasay City.
In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM, the LTFRB chief asked the bus company to explain why it should not face a P1-million penalty and a revocation of its franchise.
The bus operator, he said, was also ordered to submit its buses before the LTFRB for road worthiness tests.
He added that its bus drivers and conductors should undergo a compulsory drug testing and road safety seminars.
The LTFRB has ordered the bus company to surrender the plates of the 15 suspended buses while the hearing of the case has been set on April 22.
Ginez said the said incident is a “warning” to all bus companies to follow their approved routes.
The families of the fatalities in the accident, according to Ginez, will receive P 150,000 each as part of the insurance. IDL
