The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Batangas said it is looking into “all possible angles” for the killing of former Inquirer journalist Melinda “Mei” Magsino on Monday.
“We are looking (into) all the possible angles now,” Colonel Manuel Castillo, Chief of Police of the Batangas PNP told Radyo Inquirer in an interview Tuesday.

Castillo said that on March 19, Magsino filed a blotter report against a man who owes her debt and came to their house and threatened her with a gun.
Castillo said the police are also investigating if her killing was connected with her relationship with her ex-husband since she was already living with another man.
The police official said that the investigation would also look into the angle that her killing could have been related to her former job as a journalist.

Magsino was an Inquirer correspondent for six years until 2005.
Castillo said a single gunshot ended the life of Magsino.
According to him, no CCTV footage of the crime was available and that no witness was present when it happened, making the investigation even more difficult for the authorities.
Castillo said the incident was not robbery-related since the victim’s bag including her cellphones and other valuables were still with her after the incident.
“Talaga pong ang gusto lang po ng suspect ay mapatay si Mei Magsino kasi may bag siya at may cellphone pero di naman kinuha. Single shot lang ito at ‘yun ang agad niyang ikinamatay (The suspect just wanted Mei Magsino dead. She had her bag and cellphone with her, but they weren’t stolen. She died of a single gunshot),” he said. IDL
