Criminal charges have been filed against the driver of a car that rear-ended a jeepney in Muntinlupa City before dawn Thursday and killed a woman whose legs were also severed. Jose Emmanuel Ranola, 24, was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide for the death of Shirley Rabusa, 56.

Rabusa was about to board the jeepney when it was hit from behind by the Honda Civic driven by Ranola. The woman was sandwiched between the two vehicles and died on the spot, according to the case investigator, PO3 Jumar Tira.

The incident happened on West Service Road near the corner of Villongco Road in Sucat around 5 a.m. “She was hit in the thighs and they were severed as a result,” said Senior Insp. June Reyes, chief of the city’s traffic investigation unit, noting that the car was apparently doing 60 kph when it hit the other vehicle.

Ranola was also charged for damaging the jeepney driven by Gordon Bermillo. He was arrested on-site by the police. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
