Is your town likely to be hit by storm surges as typhoon “Chedeng” (international name: Maysak) approaches the eastern coast of Luzon?
A list released by Project NOAH showed that as of Saturday 9 a.m. there are four towns in Quezon that are prone to storm surge:
Quezon, Quezon – storm surge of up to 1.4 meters (4.59 feet)
Calauag, Quezon – up to 1.4 meters (4.59 feet)
Gumaca, Quezon – up to 1.3 meters (4.265 feet)
Lopez, Quezon – up to 1.3 meters (4.265 feet)

“Those living within the vicinity of the areas identified in this list should also take precautionary measures against possible storm surges,” the Project NOAH advisory said.
The state weather bureau said “Chedeng” may cause storm surges as high as two meters (6.56 feet).

People could also regularly check the Project NOAH site and find out if their villages will be affected.
The term “storm surge” became known among Filipinos after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) hit the country in 2013. The typhoon resulted in storm surges as high as two-storey buildings. These giant walls of seawater rushed inland and washed out entire communities, killing thousands of people in Eastern Visayas.
