ZAMBOANGA CITY—Five persons had been confirmed dead in the sinking of a motorboat off Sulu on Thursday, authorities had said.
Rescuers continue to scour the waters off Tapul and Pata in Sulu for at least 36 missing passengers of the ill-fated MPB Wilfaiza, according to Lt. (sg) Jimmy Berbo, district commander of the Philippine Coast Guard based here.
Berbo confirmed that five people had been killed and 14 survivors—mostly children—had been plucked out of sea following the incident on Thursday evening.
The boat—carrying more than 50 passengers and construction materials—was heading for Tapul when it was sunk by huge waves, according to Berbo. RC
