HERKIMER—A New York woman has been accused of running over a bound man who she said promised her $180,000 if she ended his life.

State police said 74-year-old Francis Nelson was found dead, his hands and feet still tied, near his abandoned car on a rural road Tuesday morning. They said 28-year-old Jennifer Riesel told investigators that Nelson asked her to kill him.

Riesel and Nelson were both from Little Falls, a small city about 60 miles (96 kilometers) west of Albany where Nelson worked at the wastewater treatment plant before retiring. Trooper Jack Keller said Thursday the two were friends.

Riesel is jailed on a second-degree murder charge. Officials didn’t know if she has a lawyer.
