MANILA, Philippines — Embattled Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay hit Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II for involving members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and elite cops from its Special Action Force (SAF) in political matters.

In a press conference on Monday, Binay said he was sorry for the cops for following Roxas’ orders.

He said that at least 2,5000 cops were deployed at around 4 a.m. on Monday to surround the building, paralyzing the operations inside the Makati City Hall.

“Around 4 a.m. today, some 2,500 members of the PNP and including commandos swooped down and barricaded all entrances, effectively disrupting the services in the city hall.  We understand and we sympathize with the members of the PNP and the SAF. They are being used for political gain,” Binay said.

He reiterated that Roxas was behind his suspension.

“I know that it was Sec. Mar Roxas who planned your task today,” he added.

The suspended mayor apologized to Makati City residents for the disrupted operations in the City Hall, saying that he was not behind it.

“We apologize to the residents. Offices in the City Hall should be open today. It was not our decision to close the City Hall,” Binay said.
