Magnitude 4.2 quake shakes Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook parts of the Bicol region Monday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the quake’s epicenter at 6 kilometers, 23 degrees west of Polangui, Albay, at 8:09 a.m.
Eduardo Laguerta, resident volcanologist of Philvolcs observatory on Ligñon Hill in this city, said the quake, which had a depth of 14 kilometers, was tectonic in origin.
The quake was felt at Intensity 1 in Legazpi City, Albay, and Mulanay, Quezon province; Intensity 2 in Pilar, Sorsogon, and Daet, Camarines Norte, and Intensity 3 in Iriga City, Camarines Sur.
Laguerta said an earthquake of Magnitude 4.2 was considered a “small quake” that could be felt by people but not expected to cause damage.
