Emilmich, Glenzen in MKBC final
EMILMICH of Michael and Emily Badon edged Doña Maria Village (DMV), 105-104 in overtime Tuesday night, to advance to the final round of the Mawin’s Kitchen Basketball Cup (MKBC)-2011 Second Conference basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym in Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
The win put Emilmich in a titular showdown with Glenzen Urethane Paints of businessman Ronel Tiu, which scored a come-from-behind, 91-78 win over defending champion Mawin’s Kitchen of Sherwin Lequit and Maia Adriatico.
Emilmich led, 21-16 in the first canto with Beboy Potencioso and Jonel Lanutan leading the charge. But DMV struck in the 2nd period with a, 25-17 run for a three-point lead at the half, 41-38, then unloaded a, 28-23 bomb in the third to grab a, 69-61 advantage going to the final canto.
The fourth featured several deadlocks and lead changes before Emilmich tied the count at 88-all on Oliver Sanoy’s two charities that sent the game into overtime.
The extension was just as close until Emilmich’s Niño Iso scored on an undergoal stab and drew a foul which he essayed into a three-point play for the cardiac win.
Beboy Potencioso and Ver Sonsona led Emilmich with 22 and 20 points, respectively while Jun Llenes and Niño Iso combined for 34 markers. Oliver Sanoy paced DMV with a night-high 37 points.

Article continues after this advertisementThe Painters’ anchored its fourth quarter resurgence on Aikan Cabañero and hot-shot Yok Alesna who led a 25-18 rally until Mawin’s skipper Sherwin Lequit walked out of the game allegedly due to the referees’ controversial call.
