Small badge ruined act for this ‘chief inspector’

Criminal charges were filed on Saturday against a man who posed as a policeman by wearing the uniform of a “chief inspector” in Pasay City.

Dannie Ting, 47, also aroused suspicion because he was wearing a badge smaller than the genuine article.

The Pasay City police said Ting was arrested at Bagong Milenyo Plaza in San Rafael around 10 a.m., after he failed to present any identification card proving that he was a lawman.

The arresting officers acted on a report that the uniformed Ting was seen lingering in the area. When approached, the man was found with a badge pinned on his uniform that was “too small and not the standard size of the PNP badge,” the police noted.

His fake uniform came complete with a nameplate bearing his surname and a patch of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). When questioned, Ting claimed that he was a chief inspector reporting to the NCRPO’s Criminal Investigation Division Group and that he was on a “secret mission.”

Ting faces charges for usurpation of authority and illegal use of a police uniform and insignia in the city prosecutor’s office.Kristine Felisse Mangunay
