Teen who allegedly tied, raped classmate says ’50 shades’ made him do it
MANILA, Philippines—The “unconventional desires” of a college student might merit him a jail sentence.
A 19-year-old college student charged of sexually assaulting a classmate said that they were only recreating scenes from the film “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Mohammad Hossain, a college student at the University of Illinois in Chicago, reportedly hit his female classmate repeatedly after binding her hands and legs to a bed with belts, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The incident happened on Saturday after Hossain invited his classmate to his dorm room in the University of Illinois in Chicago. He told her to strip to her underwear and bra, which she did.
After tying his classmate’s hands and legs to the bed, Hossain repeatedly hit her with a belt. The woman asked Hossain to stop but he continued, even striking her with his fist. The woman “began shaking her head and crying”, quoted Assistant State Attorney Sarah Karr.
The woman was able to free her arms but the student “held her hands behind her back and allegedly sexually assaulted her as she continued to plead for him to stop,” Karr added.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. reportedly asked Assistant Cook County public defender Sandra Bennewitz, Hossain’s lawyer, why he did the act.
“Sandra, how can someone involved in all hat let a movie persuade him to do something like this?” Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. was quoted as saying.
“He would say that it was consensual,” Bennewitz said in the report.
The college student was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and his bail was set at $500,000.
The movie adaptation of the popular book written by E.L James was released this month, topping box office charts in the US and other countries. AJH
