DOJ to start probe on Mamasapano clash on Friday
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice (DOJ) will begin on Friday its inquiry on the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, on Jan. 25.
Assistant state prosecutor Juan Paulo Navera, head of team, said they would meet to gather the initial evidence collected by the National Bureau of Investigation from the field.
“We will have our initial planning and coordination meetings for tasking and direction purposes,” Navera told reporters.
“For interview of witnesses who can identify particular suspects, we will do that after we have listed and prioritized these witnesses based on the initial field work by the NBI agents,” he said.
But Navera said they have yet to decide if an ocular inspection would be conducted or not and if there was a need for reenactment of the incident.
Aside from Navera, other members of the panel from the National Prosecution Service are assistant state prosecutors Irwin Maraya, Gino Paolo Santiago and Jocelyn Dugay, and assistant prosecution lawyer Ethel Rea Suril.
