Barangay leaders, stakeholders to raise drainage problem in Mandaue
BARANGAY leaders and stakeholders in Mandaue City will undergo a seminar workshop to come up with a solution to the drainage problem.
Architect Florentino Nimor from the City Planning and Development Office said the seminar workshop is for local government officials to hear the suggestions of the participants.
Nimor said the seminar is part of the process of overhauling the drainage master plan of the city, some of which was already changed.
He said there is a need to seek inputs from barangay leaders and stakeholders for they know the drainage problems in their area that need attention.
“It’s nice to get their suggestions kay sweto mani sila sa ilang lugar (since they are more familiar wtih their place),” he added.
Nimor said the presence of FF Cruz Developer—which is located in North Reclamation Area—in the seminar will contribute to a solution to the drainage problem.
Nimor said part of the drainage system in the North Reclamation Area is overcapacity, thus the need to put up another drainage line to divert some of the water to the sea.
The first batch of seminar-workshop will be on Saturday. It will be attended by the 27 barangay leaders, City Engineering Office and personnel from the 5th Engineering District of Department of Public Works and Highways. The second seminar for stakeholders will be held Saturday next week.

Nimor said the local government has a short-term solution for the drainage problem, which is regular simultaneous cleanup. The long-term solution would be to establish new drainage plan, install detention pond and others. /REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
