Nation awash with reports of Purisima’s resignation

MANILA, Philippines – Rumors swept the country Thursday afternoon that Philippine National Police chief Alan Purisima had resigned, with one reliable source confirming the resignation, but with the Palace and Purisima’s lawyer denying it.
DZMM and ABS-CBN News Channel broke the news, quoting a reliable source saying that President Benigno Aquino III accepted Purisima’s resignation “with much equivocation.”
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a Palace press briefing that they have not received such information, contrary to earlier reports.
