2 dead, 11 hurt as BGC building floor collapses

MANILA, Philippines―Two construction workers were killed and at least 11 others were injured as a portion of a building still under construction at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City collapsed Wednesday morning.

Taguig City Fire Marshall Chief Junito Maslang confirmed that Renan Dela Cruz and Ruben Ragkaquiam were killed as the upper ground floor of “The Suites at One Bonifacio High Street” building located at 28th St. cor. 3rd Ave. collapsed at around 8:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, the 11 injured workers were identified: Sandy Vargas, Jaymar Carberta, Regan Labmutin, Larry Magguray, Wendil Behim, Aldrin Gahuman, Roberto Lorca, Darwin Avara, Bernard Tugade, Jonathan Agoso, and Delinger Abara. Tugade was brought to Ospital ng Makati while the others were rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center in BGC for treatment. They sustained minor injuries.

Maslang admitted that the BFP had difficulty in retrieving the bodies of the workers due to the amount of debris brought by the collapse.

In an earlier report, Taguig City Police Chief Col. Arthur Felix Asis said that the workers were pouring cement on the said floor when the accident happened.

The Suites is a 63-story residential development by Ayala Land Premier. The company is yet to issue a statement on the mishap.

Asis said that an investigation on the incident is underway.
