QC moves biz tax deadline to Feb. 2
The deadline for the payment of business taxes without penalty and interest in Quezon City had been extended to Monday, the local government said. After the Feb. 2 deadline, a 25-percent surcharge and a 2-percent monthly interest would be imposed, the City Hall said in a statement Saturday. The City Hall and all treasury branches will be open until midnight on Monday. The original deadline, Jan. 31, was moved since it falls on a weekend. Earlier, an ordinance granting a 10-day extension of the Jan. 20 first-quarter deadline for the payment of business taxes and fees was approved by Mayor Herbert Bautista. All low-risk establishments, such as sari-sari stores and business establishments with gross sales below P500,000, can pay their taxes at treasury branches in Novaliches, La Loma, Cubao, Talipapa and Galas. PWU marks 96th foundation anniversary
The Philippine Women’s University (PWU) will kick off the celebration of its 96th founding anniversary with an interfaith prayer worship on Feb. 2, 9 a.m. at Conrado Benitez Hall of the PWU Taft campus in Manila. The program will open with prayers of student representatives from different religious denominations, to be followed by the remarks of president Dr. Francisco B. Benitez, who will also lead a candlelight ceremony. Benitez, the ninth president of PWU, will be joined by representatives of the PWU community from the Taft and Quezon City campuses. Board chair and former Sen. Dr. Helena Z. Benitez will give the inspirational message. A highlight of the foundation month celebration is the president’s convocation on Feb. 9, at 10 a.m., where Benitez will deliver his assessment of the school’s performance and directives for the succeeding years. A special guest is Margot Cassel Pins, 83, a Jewish elementary alumna from 1940-1944, who escaped the Nazi Holocaust in Europe through the “open-door policy” of then President Manuel Quezon in 1938.
