ZAMBOANGA CITY–One person was killed while four others–two civilians and two soldiers–were injured in separate attacks attributed to the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu and Basilan on Friday.
Ensign Chester Ian Ramos, spokesperson of the Naval Forces in Western Mindanao, said the first incident took place in Sumisip, Basilan, around 9:45 a.m.
He said Abu Sayyaf bandits fired on a squad of militiamen patrolling near a bridge construction project in Barangay Limboo Candis.
A civilian was killed while two others were injured.
Ramos did not not provide details on the civilian casualties.
In Sulu, two government troops were injured when Abu Sayyaf bandits ambushed a convoy of soldiers belonging to the 35th Infantry Battalion around 1:30 p.m., according to Ramos.
He said the soldiers were from Barangay Danag in Patikul town and were on their way to Jolo when fired at as they were traversing Barangay Bungkaong, still in Patikul.
