MANILA, Philippines–The wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay arrived Thursday at the Sandiganbayan for the arraignment of her graft and malversation charges over the alleged anomalous purchase of P45-million worth of medical supplies during her term as Makati mayor.
Elenita Binay arrived at the anti-graft court at 12:46 p.m.
The graft and malversation charges filed against Binay stemmed from the alleged anomalous purchase of hospital beds amounting to P36.3 million and P8.83 million worth of dry heat sterilizers without public bidding.
Binay’s arraignment was previously set on November 20, 2014, but was moved by the anti-graft court’s third division to January 29 after her legal counsel asked for a postponement as they plan to file a motion for reconsideration.
Binay has since posted bail after the Sandiganbayan found probable cause to indict her with graft charges and proceed with her trial.
