MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Francis Escudero on Friday announced the suspension of work in the Senate on Monday, January 13, due to the “National Rally of Peace” by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

The advisory said that the order aligns with the Memorandum Circular No. 76 issued by the Office of the President suspending classes and government work in the City of Manila and Pasay City.

The advisory, however, added that  “[p]ersonnel of the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Maintenance and General Services Bureau who are on shifting schedule are not covered by the work suspension.”

Meanwhile, the plenary sessions will resume on Tuesday, January 14, and will be called to order at 3:00 p.m.

On Friday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that the INC event is expected to draw a crowd of one million to the Quirino Grandstand.

The INC previously said that the rally will be an expression of support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
