Senate panel cites Agrifortuna exec in contempt

MANILA, Philippines—The Senate blue ribbon  subcommittee cited  in contempt for the  second time a resource person who was a no-show  at its resumption of hearing on Thursday.

At the start of the hearing of the subcommittee, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV moved  to cite  professor Tomas Lopez, director of Agrifortuna  Inc.,  for not attending the proceeding.

Senator  Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel  III, chairman  of the  subcommittee, immediately granted  Trillanes’ motion and  recommended  the contempt citation against  Lopez  “for a graver act this time.”

“I have no choice but to grant  your motion,” Pimentel said.

Pimentel earlier recommended to cite Lopez   in contempt  along with Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Jun-Jun” Binay and five others but later withdrew it after the  former  promised to appear in the next hearing.
