MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has ordered all Halls of Justice nationwide to fly the Philippine national flag at half-mast for five days as a sign of mourning for the fallen members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).

“In honor of the fallen officers of the PNP-SAF who were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, all Philippine national flags in all Halls of Justice shall be flown at half-mast for a period of five days starting today (Wednesday),” the circular issued by the Supreme Court’s Office of the Court Administrator said.

The order cited Republic Act No. 8491 Section 23 which provides that “the flag shall be flown at half-mast as a sign of mourning on all buildings and places where it is displayed on official announcement of the death of select government officials or other persons to be determined by the National Historical Institute.”
