Sandigan convicts ex-Romblon town mayor, exec for purchase of ‘ghost’ piglets
MANILA, Philippines–The Sandiganbayan convicted former officials in Romblon for the purchase of “ghost” piglets in 1991.
Convicted are former Looc Mayor Manuel Arboleda and Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Fermina Gaytano for Falsification of Public Documents.
The anti-graft court imposed the penalty of 6 years, 8 months and one day of prision mayor as minimum to 8 years, 8 months and one day as maximum and a payment for the fine of P3,000 each.
In its decision, the antigraft court found Arboleda and Gaytano guilty of falsifying the contents of the Report of Inspection and Deliveries to make it appear that actual deliveries of piglets were made in order to facilitate payment for the transaction worth P20,000.
The court said the Ombudsman prosecutors were able to present evidence that no actual deliveries had been made which caused undue injury to the Municiplaity of Looc.
