MANILA, Philippines–Bad weather and the ill-fated plane still beside the runway of the Tacloban City airport forced the cancellation of 32 flights to and from Manila on Sunday.

An advisory by the Manila International Airport Authority said 12 Philippine Airlines express flights to and from Calbayog, Catarman, Masbate, Naga and Legazpi cities were canceled due to Tropical Storm “Amang.”

Other flights were canceled as a consequence of the skidding off the runway of the Daniel Z. Romualdez International Airport on Saturday of a Bombardier executive aircraft carrying several Cabinet members accompanying Pope Francis.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a notice to airmen extending the closure of the Tacloban airport to 9 p.m. on Jan. 20.

It only allowed takeoffs and landings by aircraft that could do so on a runway length of 1,500 meters.–Niña P. Calleja
