Magnitude 4.1 earthquake shakes parts of Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY—A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook Catanduanes province and nearby areas on Saturday morning,  said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Eduardo Laguerta, resident volcanologist at the Phivolcs observatory at Ligñon Hill in this city, said the epicenter was 35 kilometers southeast of Virac, Catanduanes with a depth of 24 kilometers. It was felt at 5:56 a.m.

Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Cabid-an, Sorsogon; Intensity 2 in Legazpi City; and Intensity 2 in Virac, Catanduanes.

Laguerta said the quake was tectonic in origin, which means it was triggered by the movement of the earth’s crust.
