THE Quill, official student publication of Southwestern University, sponsored the first Siglakas photography contest.
Anchored on the theme “A sport for every Southwesterner and every Southwesterner in a sport,” the entries were captured by 26 students from the highlights and sidelights of the university’s 104th Founder’s Day and Siglakas 2011.
The winning entries were judged by Cebu Daily News photo editor Antonio Despojo, Sun.Star Cebu lensman Alex Badayos and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu photographer Anthony Hejie Suralta according to composition, creativity and originality, technical quality and visual impression.
John Roy Lagura II from the College of Pharmacy placed first for his photo featuring the championship game in flag football between the College of Nursing and the College of Engineering.
Airen Ibañez from the School of Business finished second for her photo involving a taekwondo championship game between the Maritime Regiment and the College of Criminology.
Oliver Rigor of the Graduate School of Health Science, Management and Pedagogy bagged third prize for his entry on a flag football game between the College of Nursing and the College of Medicine.
In an awarding ceremony, SWU president Dr. Elsa Suralta presented the certificates of recognition and prizes to the winners.
The contest was organized to promote photojournalism and showcase skills of the students in photography.
The entries were displayed on Aug. 31 at the lobby of Don Matias H. Aznar II Memorial building.
