Thousands await Pope Francis in Manila Cathedral

MANILA, Philippines–Thousands of people on Friday waited patiently outside the Manila Cathedral to see Pope Francis, who will hold his first mass here in the country.

The Pope is coming from the Malacañang where he met with President Benigno Aquino III, politicians, and members of the Aquino Cabinet and diplomatic corps.

He is scheduled to officiate the mass at 11:45 a.m.

Accompanied by guitar, nuns in front of the Church were singing religious songs while some of the crowd sat or lay down on the ground while waiting for the Pope.

After the Mass, the Pope will return to the Papal Nunciature before proceeding to the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City for the “Meeting with Families.”
