MANILA, Philippines–The tropical depression seen to enter the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to intensify into a tropical storm before it enters the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning, the state weather bureau said midday Wednesday.
The tropical depression, which will be called “Amang” once it enters the PAR, was last observed 1,560 kilometers east of Northern Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.
“However, it is predicted to weaken as it approaches the eastern seaboard with low possibility of making landfall,” Pagasa said.
Pagasa earlier said the weather disturbance is seen to bring rains in Eastern Visayas, coinciding with Pope Francis’ visit in Leyte on Saturday to meet with the victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan).
