PILI, Camarines Sur, Philippines–Ten persons, including three children, were injured when a passenger bus lost control of its brakes and hit another bus parked along the road in Pamplona, Camarines Sur, early Monday.
Superintendent Joel Sabuco, acting chief of police of the Pamplona Municipal Police Office, said the BB bus from Manila and bound for the Matnog port in Sorsogon was negotiating a road when it hit the Elavil bus, which was parked along the roadside in Barangay (village) San Vicente, Pamplona at 1:35 a.m.
He said the BB bus also hit and damaged a portion of the canteen near the spot where the Elavil bus was parked.
Sabuco said eight passengers of the BB bus and its two drivers–mostly residents of Samar and Leyte, were injured.
He said the front side of the BB bus was severely damaged in the crash so that rescuers had to extricate its bus driver, Allan Maranan, 46, who got stuck in the twisted metal of the bus and got major injuries.
Among those hurt were BB bus co-driver Jonabert Largo, 38; Judith Diego, 36, and her children Wingke, 7; Alexa Cali, 2, and Cyrene, 2.
Also injured were Norman Acusar, 28; Lorna Raquel, 56; Nonita Badania, 60, and Trinidad Galvez, 19. They were all brought to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City for treatment of minor injuries.
Sabuco said Maranan could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
