Binay shrugs off latest accusation as ‘perception game’

MANILA, Philippines–Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday said the alleged anomaly involving housing funds being hurled against him is just part of a “perception game” by his critics.

“Alam mo, ito ‘yong perception game. Alam naman nila na kahit tatlo, limang taon, hindi matatapos ang bintang-bintang na ‘yon. Bakit ginagawa ‘yon? Ang habol habol nila e ‘yong perception. Sisirain ka agad (This is what you call a perception game. These allegations won’t stop in three, even five years. Why? They’re after the perception. They want to discredit me),” Binay, said in an interview over radio DWIZ.

On Monday, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV disclosed that Binay is being investigated by “concerned government agencies” over an alleged anomaly involving Pag-Ibig funds.

Binay is the concurrent chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

The vice president lamented that most Filipinos would quickly express judgment even without an evidence.

“Kakahiya man sabihin pero pare-pareho naman tayong mga Pilipino, marami sa’ting mga kababayan e agad may negative reaction (It’s embarrassing but many of our fellow Filipinos are quick to express negative reaction),” Binay said.

“Ours is a negative thinking society,” he added.

Binay said the allegations against him affected his survey ratings.

“Basta’t sinabi na ‘yon, totoo na ‘yon. Bihira kayo makarinig ng, ‘Saglit, pakinggan naman natin ang paliwanag.’ Tingnan natin ang [katibayan]. Ito, nakaapekto agad sa survey [ratings] namin (Once they hear something, they think it’s true. They don’t stop to listen to explanations or scrutinize evidence. It has affected our survey ratings),” he said.

Binay said “conviction should come from the court.”
