MANILA, Philippines- Two weather disturbances in the Pacific are gaining strength and are poised to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within several days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Science and Technology Undersecretary Graciano Yumul, Tropical Depression Quiel is currently over the Pacific Ocean far to the east of northern Luzon and is estimated to enter the PAR by Wednesday afternoon.

However, it may not make a landfall as it is expected to move northwest and out of the PAR, Yumul said.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area, which will be named Ramon once it enters the PAR, was also spotted over the Pacific Ocean far to the east of Mindanao. Ramon is expected to strengthen further and, if it maintains its current speed and trajectory, will likely make a landfall over Samar sometime Saturday.
