AirAsia pilot suspected of consuming drugs

An AirAsia Indonesia captain piloting flight QZ7510 from Jakarta to Denpasar has tested positive for morphine after the Transportation Ministry conducted random urine tests at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on Thursday morning.

“We discovered this after our aviation health division and aircraft operation and airworthiness division carried out random urine tests at Ngurah Rai,” ministry expert staff member Hadi M Djuraid said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the urine test was carried out shortly after QZ7510 landed at Ngurah Rai at 8:50 a.m. The man had been scheduled to pilot flight QZ7511 to Jakarta, but this was was cancelled and he was sent to the ministry’s aviation health division in Jakarta.

AirAsia Indonesia has not made a statement on the matter.
