BARANGAY OFFICIALS AGAINST CIUDAD

THE barangay council of Talamban in Cebu City asked  Mayor Michael Rama to continue the moratorium on projects in the city’s northern corridor.

The implementation of the Cuidad project will worsen traffic congestion in the area and “subsequently result to a reduced general socioeconomic development of eight Cebu City north barangays,” the officials said  in their resolution dated Aug. 11.

The barangays are Talamban, Budlaan, Bacayan, Pit-os, San Jose, Pulanbato, Binaliw and Agsungot.

The officials said there is an  “urgent need for alternative routes and or the construction of alternative roads as priority in order to ease traffic congestion.”

Fifth Avenue Development Corp., the developer of the proposed Ciudad project, already obtained  locational clearance from the City Planning and Development Office.

All they lack is a building permit  to start their construction project.

Mayor Rama said in an earlier interview that he does not intend to block the project  as long as City Hall requirements for  permits are met.  He referred the Talamban officials’ resolution to City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete for action. /Chief Of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac

‘PAY FOR LOST GUNS’

TWO former Cebu City officials and a government worker were asked to pay for the government-issued handguns  that they lost.

Former Bulacao barangay captain Celerino Cabanca Sr. and former city assessor Palermo Lugo said they were willing to pay for the lost weapons.

Vicente Cugay of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries   asked that the value of the lost fireram  be collected from him through salary deduction.

Rolando Ardosa, head of the Government Services Office (GSO), said his staff is checking  current value of the lost firearms.  Audit rules  state that  payment  must be “based on the existing value of the items lost and not based on the value when these missing firearms where bought.”

A .9mm pistol were issued to Cabanca, whose term as barangay captain ended in October 2010, and Lugo.
