MANILA, Philippines–Just as 2014 became 2015, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao sent some fireworks to undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“The ball will drop at midnight to usher in 2015. Floyd Mayweather let’s not drop the ball on fighting each other next year! #LetsMakeFistory,” Pacquiao posted on Twitter at 1:15 am Wednesday (Manila time).
Pacquiao, the only eight division World champion in boxing history, has been very vocal in pursuing the megafight against Mayweather.
He spoke often of his desire to fight Mayweather during the leadup to his November 23 fight against Chris Algieri, Dan Rafael of ESPN said, and even appeared on a Foot Locker advertisement subtly challenging the Pretty Boy to make the 2015 fight.
On a previous tweet in December, the 36-year-old Pacquiao tweeted to the 37-year-old Mayweather to give the fans what they want.
“Don’t be a boxing humbug. Let’s give the fans the fight they want. They have waited long enough,” Pacquiao said.
